San Miguel de Allende Elopement and Mojiganga Parade | Adriana + Karl
Adriana and Karl met in Denver, Colorado but could think of no where better to have their destination elopement than in San Miguel de Allende.
They wanted to celebrate with a quiet destination elopement with just the two of them in a beautiful garden setting which was offered up by a friend of mine. Their vows were read from books made of handmade paper embellished with artistic images from Mexico. Following their sweet and touching elopement ceremony, we walked around the cobblestone streets of San Miguel taking photographs among the colorful walls of the city until our Mojiganga dancers met up with us. Instead of the traditional wedding attire, the Mojigangas were dressed in fun, bright colors that represented to energy and joy this UNESCO city brings to people who live here and visit.
For Adriana’s bouquet, I thought it would be playful to add some colorful pom poms purchased in the Mercado de Artesanías. Traditionally known as Azulehos, authentic pom-poms come from Chiapas, the most southern state of Mexico, and they’re made by the Tzotzil, an indigenous Mayan people. Traditionally they were made from cotton, but these days you’ll find many artisans opting for acrylic yarn as it looks much brighter.
I couldn’t be happier to have coordinated and photographed Adriana and Karl’s destination elopement in San Miguel de Allende! Much happiness to them both!
